The Billfish Foundation
About
The Billfish Foundation (TBF) is a science-based, non-profit, charitable organization. (501) (c )(3) , based in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida with constituents around the world. TBF’s priorities include research (including sportfishing economics), education and advocacy for responsible use and conservation of billfish (marlin, sailfish, spearfish). The organization was established in 1986 by Winthrop P. Rockefeller and 50 anglers, who recognized that despite better fishing equipment and skill, they were encountering fewer billfish; they instinctively knew overfishing was occurring. TBF’s guiding philosophy remains that good conservation pays through returns to the fish and economic benefits to related and supporting businesses.
